Chronos vs. Kairos

Recently I have been hearing and reading a lot about the value of differentiating between chronos (sequential time) and kairos (a moment of indeterminate time in which something happens).  What the special something is depends on who is using the word.  While chronos is quantitative, kairos has a qualitative nature.

This week has seemed unusually long in a chronological sense.  We have all four been sick, Brad was gone most of the week (while sick), and we have been yearning for the weekend when we could finally spend time together and hopefully all feel a little better.  All of the little unpleasant moments from the week have already blurred away (chronos) but the moment I just experienced will linger, suspended, indefinitely (kairos).

As I tuck Kate in each night, I sing to her just before I leave her room:  "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray.  You'll never know, Kate, how much I love you.  Please don't take my sunshine away."  After the last note tonight, she touched my arm and said, "Mom, you know no one will ever take your sunshine away.  I will hold onto you forever." Kairos.

Easter 2012

Sharkboy after his bath

Kate decided to be the Easter bunny for her Easter party at school....

Bluebonnets at Blackjack

Buddies in the bluebonnets

Dad decided we should try lying in the bluebonnets.  I loved it!  Luke did not.

Then Mom and I found lots of bluebonnets to lay in and look at the clouds.

Running through the wildflowers.

"Bluebonnet party!"

Here are our Easter nests.  (I am sitting in mine and Luke is already in bed for the night.)

Mom, Gigi and I playing washers.  Um, I'm pretty good.

We take this game seriously, apparently.

Easter morning fog.

After the fog lifted, we had a beautiful Easter morning.

And the Easter bunny came!!!!

And now we are ready to find those eggs!

Luke decided to gather washers instead of eggs....

which meant more eggs for me!

Mmmmm.  Chocolate.

In our Easter best.

Here we are under the trees where Mom and Dad got married.

Six years later.  Who would've guessed they would be lucky enough to have Luke and me to call their very own?

Luke could ride on this four wheeler for hours.

Lukey loves Lucy.

I got a butterfly net from the Easter Bunny and Gigi and I put it to good use that night.

Happy Easter to everyone!  Hope you all enjoyed the holiday as much as we did.  We spent our first Easter at Blackjack this year and it was just perfect.  There were wildflowers all over the pasture so we had no trouble finding the flowers for our Easter nests.  Sunday morning we had our Easter egg hunt and then went to church with Mimi, Gigi and Popo.  During the children's time at church, the pastor asked if we could smell the Easter lilies in the church and I blurted out, "Yes, I think they smell like chocolate!"  Even though my parents couldn't see me down there on the floor, they looked at each other and said, "That's Kate.  The girl loves her chocolate."  And that is a fact.   After church we had lunch together at Blackjack with Uncle John and all the rest (Chocolate four layer delight for dessert included.)

Fun weekend with Mary and Luke

Posing with Dad's new artwork: "Welcome to Blackjack"!

The artiste creates.

Time with Mary makes me so happy!

Mary and Allie

The Sengs and me.  (Please excuse the pajamas and messy hair; I had just taken a bath but I just HAD to meet Allie...)
This weekend was another fun-filled one.  I helped Mary Kate celebrate her 5th birthday at Ceramics Bayou where I had my first ceramics painting experience and I loved it.  I painted a unicorn, of course.  We  then spent rest of the weekend with Mary and Big Luke. On Sunday we all went to Blackjack and Mary and Mama went to Warrenton where Mary and Luke found Allie, their new baby Great Dane who is EXACTLY who they had been looking for.  She is adorable!!

A fun visit from the Hidells

Snow cones on the Zilker Zephyr

Last weekend the Hidells came to Austin for a visit.  We had loads of fun visiting Zilker Park, taking them to Austin's Pizza and playing around the house.  How lucky are we that our Moms and Dads had us all so close together?
