Route 66 Road Trip back to Texas. San Bernardino, CA to Flagstaff, AZ

On Monday we rented a car and started our five day journey back home.  We decided to take the long way back by cruising down old Route 66 for much of our trip.  And we had the most fun!  The pictures are a little out of order, so here is how the first few days went:  We got on Route 66 in San Bernardino, California and made it all the way to Flagstaff, Arizona that night.  The drive through the deserts and mountains of Arizona and the old deserted mining towns was the prettiest drive of the whole trip.  It's also where we stumbled upon Oatman, Arizona.  Tuesday we drove to Sedona and did a Pink Jeep tour through the Red Rocks and that afternoon we went to Bearizona, a cool drive through wildlife park.  Wednesday we drove to Williams and hopped on a two hour train that took us to the Grand Canyon.  Thursday morning we woke up and got back on the road!
Our Dodge Journey seemed like the perfect name for our car.

It was 113 degrees in this picture. No joke.  This was the Amboy crater, an extinct volcano and lava field in the middle of the Mojave desert.

Oatman, Arizona.  A mining ghost town where wild donkeys roam the streets but are awfully sweet to passers by.    This little town was one of our very favorite Route 66 finds.

Sedona, Arizona.  Pink Jeep tour through the Red Rocks.

Grand Canyon, Arizona.

These two hiked a mile and half around the rim of the Grand Canyon and there was more than a little drama.
